Chevrolet Blazer EV Sales Paused Due to Software Problems
A new electric vehicle by General Motors (GM), Chevrolet Blazer EV sales have been temporarily suspended due to software problems. This decision comes after the vehicle experienced a malfunction on a journey from Ohio to North Carolina. Issued on a recent Friday, the stop-sale affects a small quantity of these vehicles, with around 1,000 units of the Blazer EV currently in stock across the country.
The recent Chevrolet Blazer EV sales report highlighted some technical challenges facing the vehicle. The issues primarily concern the vehicle's touchscreen and occasional problems during charging attempts at some public DC fast chargers. These problems were notably encountered by a driver whose journey ended prematurely at a rural Virginia Electrify America station.
GM acknowledged the software quality issues in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to customer satisfaction and the ongoing efforts to resolve these problems swiftly. Customers with affected vehicles will be contacted for updates, and GM apologized for the inconvenience caused.
Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, reiterated the company's focus on customer satisfaction and confirmed a brief pause in new Blazer EV deliveries. He clarified that the issue is not safety-related.
Additionally, the Blazer EV has faced criticism from a car-buying website, which reported multiple faults with a Blazer EV purchased for evaluation. Issues included malfunctioning window switches, an infotainment display stuck in a shutdown loop, various error messages, and failures in driving functions. The website described the problems as the most significant they had ever encountered in a new car.
Chevrolet Blazer EV sales halted as owners have reported similar issues, echoing concerns about GM's Ultium-branded vehicles. Ultium, GM's new platform and battery setup for future EVs, is central to the company's all-electric ambitions by 2035. However, the platform has faced delays, slow rollouts, and early example issues. GM clarified that the current Blazer EV stop-sale is unrelated to the Ultium platform or Google Built-In features.
