Tesla Wall Connector Goes Universal: New App Integration for All EVs!

Tesla has recently rolled out a mobile app feature for its Wall Connector chargers, broadening its compatibility for non-Tesla electric vehicles (EVs).

Historically, Tesla's home charging stations have been equipped with Wi-Fi. While this provided certain features for Destination Charging locations, it didn't enrich the home charging experience since Tesla vehicles already had Wi-Fi-enabled functionalities.

However, with Tesla's decision to open its charging infrastructure to other EV brands, there arose a need to offer connectivity for these charging stations. As a solution, the company introduced the "Tesla App for Wall Connector". This feature enables both Tesla and non-Tesla EV owners to control, schedule, and access data on their Wall Connector via the app.

To avail this feature, Wall Connector owners simply need to:

  1. Open the Tesla app and tap on their profile picture icon.
  2. Choose "Add Product" and select "Wall Connector".
  3. Follow instructions to scan the QR code from their Wall Connector's Quickstart Guide.
  4. Connect the Wall Connector to their home Wi-Fi network and finish the in-app registration process.

For those who've misplaced their Quickstart Guide, support can be requested through the app.

This update trails the unveiling of Tesla's Universal Wall Connector, which is gaining traction among non-Tesla EV owners in North America, especially with the recent shift to NACS.

By the way, Tesla recently marked the production of its five millionth electric car, 20 years post its 2003 inception.
