Unpacking the New Rivian Software Update: What R1T and R1S Owners Need to Know
Rivian has rolled out a new software update (version 2023.34.0) for its Rivian R1S and Rivian R1T all-electric vehicles, enhancing ride quality, handling, and introducing new features. According to the release notes, the software upgrade bolsters the balance in Sport Mode and boosts comfort in All-Purpose Soft Ride Mode. This enhancement is attributed to the air suspension present in both the R1T and R1S, allowing for adjustments to the ride feel.
Driving over sudden road impacts and bumps at parking speeds will now feel less abrupt due to Rivian software update tweaks. Further, a new default Speed Limit mode sets speed by detected limits with Highway Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. Another setting, Current Speed, maintains ongoing velocity.
Rivian's latest software update introduces a Screen Clean function, deactivating in-car displays for easier cleaning. The update significantly reduces range loss, improving by over 25% in sleep mode, especially with Gear Guard off. If there's an issue with the 12-volt battery, users get notifications on their app (version 2.2.0+).
The automaker's dedication to progressive improvements is evident from their history of adding features such as Kneel Mode, Camp Mode, and Snow Mode. With the Rivian software update, they continue their commitment to offering an evolving driving experience to its users.
From mid-September, California EV maker Rivian will discontinue Compass Yellow paint and 20-inch Bright wheels for R1S and R1T models.
