Rivian R1T & R1S Dual-Motor Warranty Changes: Everything You Need to Know!
The innovative electric vehicle manufacturer, Rivian, has recently made an important milestone by introducing the Dual-Motor R1T and R1S models with Enduro motors. However, customers have noticed that these new models come with a shorter warranty compared to the Quad-Motor variants.
On the other hand, the more affordable Dual-Motor Rivians have a basic warranty lasting four years or 50,000 miles, a standard duration for high-end vehicles. Despite the shorter warranty, the drivetrain warranty for the Dual-Motor models remains the same as the Quad-Motor, lasting eight years or 175,000 miles. However, the battery warranty is reduced to eight years or 150,000 miles.
Interestingly, Rivian's decision to lower the power levels in the Dual-Motor variants has raised some eyebrows. The standard Dual-Motor 2023 Rivian R1S and 2023 Rivian R1T now have 533 horsepower, while the Performance models have 665 horsepower. Speculations suggest that this power reduction might have been made to increase the durability of the new Enduro motors developed in-house by Rivian.
The warranty differences between the Dual-Motor and Quad-Motor configurations have also led to speculation. While the drive units have the same eight-year, 175,000-mile warranty in both versions, the bumper-to-bumper warranty for the Dual-Motor is shorter.
Some enthusiasts on online forums and Reddit believe that Rivian might be trying to limit potential losses at the end of the warranty period if the new drive units prove less durable. Others question whether Rivian's in-house drive units are truly as robust as they claim, leading to warranty discrepancies between the configurations.
