The 2024 Kia EV9 has been Revealed with Insane Specs and Tech Details!
Today, we are getting to know all the important specifications, features, and technology present in Kia's new three-row electric SUV, the 2024 KIA EV9. The EV9 is based on Hyundai Group's E-GMP electric vehicle architecture, and it comes with two battery sizes and various electric motor configurations. The top model of the EV9 will have a 99.8 kWh battery pack, and Kia will offer an RWD Long Range model with this battery that can go up to 336 miles based on the WLTP cycle. Kia has introduced new innovations, such as air curtains, an underbody cover, a long spoiler, and aerodynamic wheels, to achieve the EV9's 0.28 coefficient of drag, which helps in achieving maximum range. Although the EPA range is not yet available, it is expected to be lower than the WLTP figures.
Kia's EV9 has two RWD models: the Long Range and Standard versions. The Long Range model is equipped with a single motor that generates 201 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 9.4 seconds. On the other hand, the Standard RWD model has a 76.1 kWh battery pack and a slightly higher motor output of 215 horsepower, but the same amount of torque. This results in a faster 0-60 mph acceleration time of 8.2 seconds.
Kia's market launch will offer a dual-motor AWD option with a bigger battery pack generating 380 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. This variant can tow up to 5,000 pounds and complete the 0-60 mph run in 6.0 seconds. Kia will offer after-sales purchase and subscription services to upgrade the power output, with Boost feature reducing the 0-60 mph time to 5.3 seconds and torque to 516 pound-feet. These options can be either a one-time purchase or a rolling subscription.
Kia introduced Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 for EV9, allowing the vehicle to park automatically with the key fob. EV9 also has Kia's current driver assistance systems, such as blind-spot collision avoidance and Highway Driving Assist.
Although not the main focus, Kia has introduced the EV9 model in a never-before-seen GT-Line trim with a unique and distinctive appearance. This includes exclusive wheels, bumpers, and a black roof rack. The most notable feature is the "Digital Pattern Lightning Grille" which utilizes Kia's new technology to allow light to shine through the body color paint seamlessly. According to Kia, the pattern created on the front end of the EV9 can be customized to personal preference and additional patterns can be purchased post-purchase for a different look. Kia's aim is to generate more revenue even after the initial car purchase.
The EV9 offers various seating options, including a seven-seater option with three types of captain's chairs. These innovations provide greater flexibility to passengers while waiting for the car to charge. The car has a similar size to the Telluride, and has a completely flat floor that may offer more space. The EV9 also has a small front trunk available.
The 2024 KIA EV9 is breaking new ground in its interior design by using sustainable materials instead of leather. These materials, such as corn extract, are meant to provide a similar feel to leather. In addition, the car's interior has a noticeable absence of piano black plastic in areas like the doors, dashboard, and center console. The EV9 is also introducing the Highway Driving Pilot (HDP), which Kia describes as a "conditional Level 3 autonomy" system. This system relies on 15 sensors and two lidars to enable Level 3 automation, which allows the car to drive itself in limited circumstances. However, drivers must always be ready to take control. The release date and activation of this feature on customer cars has not been specified, but it will initially be available only on the GT-Line model.
