A New Era of Audi EVs: Behind the Wheel of the 2025 Audi Q6 and SQ6 e-tron
The 2025 Audi SQ6 e-tron and 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron have been introduced as electric alternatives to the SQ5 and Q5 models. They share similar dimensions, with shorter overhangs and an extended wheelbase for the Q6 variants. These new electric vehicles represent a step beyond the Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron, marking Audi's first utilization of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. Developed in collaboration with Porsche, this PPE platform will also underpin the upcoming Macan EV, marking a significant milestone in the electric evolution of the Volkswagen Group.
PPE, designed for EVs, uses an 800-volt setup and advanced motors. The battery, around 93.0 kWh, holds 12 modules with 180 high-density prismatic lithium-ion cells. Rapid charging at 270 kW aims for under 30 minutes from 10 to 80 percent, and 155 miles in 10 minutes. The 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron offers up to 372 miles (WLTP) or about 315 miles (EPA).
The 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron and Audi SQ6 e-tron introduce new, modular electric motors designed for efficiency and reduced noise. These motors feature innovative hairpin windings and direct oil cooling for enhanced power density and decreased reliance on rare-earth elements. The rear permanent-magnet synchronous motor, weighing around 260 pounds, takes the lead in driving, while the front motor engages as needed, providing dynamic control and activation through driver-selected modes.
Incorporating cutting-edge technology, the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron prototype showcases the advancements of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology. The vehicle features OLED displays that provide stunning visual clarity, vibrant colors, and high contrast, enhancing both the interior aesthetics and the user experience. This OLED integration reflects Audi's commitment to delivering innovative solutions and a futuristic driving environment in their electric flagship model.
Ride quality won't likely be a concern with either Q6 model. Both consistently deliver a smooth and controlled experience even in extreme conditions, thanks to their air-spring suspension and 21-inch wheels equipped with higher-profile sidewalls in the prototypes.
