Volkswagen Evolving Electric Vehicle Family at the 2023 LA Auto show
At the 2023 LA Auto Show Volkswagen of America, Inc. made a significant impact, unveiling its expanding lineup of electric vehicles. This year's LA Auto Show, an eagerly awaited event for automobile enthusiasts, was particularly notable for Volkswagen. Held from November 17-26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Volkswagen LA Auto Show became the first event where the ID. Buzz, ID.7, and the revised ID.4 were displayed together, symbolizing a significant step in the company's EV strategy.
Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, shared his enthusiasm at the Los Angeles Auto Show. "It's amazing to see our family of electric vehicles together for the first time here at the Volkswagen LA Auto Show," he said. The lineup includes the ID.4, already a popular choice in the U.S. and due for an upgrade in 2024, the ID. Buzz, a novel three-row microbus, and the ID.7, Volkswagen's pioneering all-electric premium sedan.
The ID. Buzz, first revealed in Huntington Beach, California, revisits the charm of the iconic Microbus, combining a retro design with advanced EV technology. Set to be available in Fall 2024, it features a skateboard-style battery, delivering 282 horsepower in its rear-wheel-drive model and 330 horsepower in the all-wheel-drive version. The ID. Buzz is characterized by its retro-inspired yet bold design, complemented by a spacious interior, available in three unique color and trim choices for the North American market.
Scheduled for release in the second half of 2024, the ID.7 marks Volkswagen's foray into the upper midsize sedan class as an all-electric vehicle. It boasts long ranges, aided by superior aerodynamics and an innovative drivetrain, with an estimated potential range of up to 386 miles according to the European WLTP cycle. The ID.7 will feature state-of-the-art technologies such as the DCC adaptive damping system, Climatronic seats, and a high-end 700-watt harman/kardon sound system.
The ID.4 SUV, first launched in 2021 and now ranking as the fifth-best-selling EV in North America, is set for a significant upgrade. Produced in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the new 2024 model of the ID.4 will offer improved horsepower, a revamped 12.9-inch infotainment display, and an updated climate control interface. Notably, the 2023 models of the ID.4 are eligible for a full potential federal tax credit of up to $7,500, highlighting Volkswagen's commitment to local production and sourcing.
The Volkswagen LA Auto Show this year clearly demonstrated Volkswagen's leadership in the EV market, showcasing a diverse lineup designed to meet varying consumer needs. Further details, including pricing and specifications for the ID. Buzz and ID.7, will be announced as their respective 2024 launch dates approach.
