Tesla Offers Incentive to End Unlimited Free Supercharging
Tesla is making another attempt to persuade owners of older Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X vehicles to relinquish their “unlimited free Supercharging for life” privilege with a fresh proposal.
Initially, when Model S and Model X were introduced, Tesla provided free Supercharging for the duration of the car's life. This was an attractive proposition since it meant that you could potentially never have to pay for fueling your car. However, this would only be practical if you solely rely on the Supercharger network and don't charge your vehicle at home, which is not feasible for most people. Nonetheless, it is a valuable benefit for a few heavy users.
Tesla had previously offered unlimited free Supercharging for their vehicles but had to end the perk due to sustainability concerns. However, there are still hundreds of thousands of Tesla vehicles around the world that enjoy this benefit. In an effort to get these vehicles off the perk, Tesla had offered an additional $5,000 discount earlier this year for those who traded in their Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X with unlimited free Supercharging.
Tesla has recently introduced a program called "Ownership Loyalty Benefit" for its current car owners. The program offers six years of unrestricted Supercharging to those who purchase a new Model S or Model X by the end of the quarter. This program is intended to reward Tesla's loyal customers and entice them to continue using Tesla's vehicles.
Tesla is offering a deal to current Model S or Model X owners with active unlimited free Supercharging. The offer provides six years of unlimited Supercharging, provided that owners trade in or remove unlimited Supercharging from their vehicle and take delivery of a new Model S or Model X by June 30, 2023. It's important to note that if you choose not to trade in your older vehicle, you will need to sign away your right to unlimited Supercharging to receive six years of free Supercharging on your new vehicle.
