Since its introduction at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, Hyundai's IONIQ 5 N has been making waves in the electric vehicle sector. The vehicle has drawn attention for its ability to defy common expectations about EVs, notably in terms of performance and agility. Keiichi ‘DK’ Tsuchiya, a famous Japanese racecar driver known as the ‘Drift King,’ shared his positive drifting experience with the IONIQ 5 N in a Hyundai N brand video, noting its playful agility and the fun driving experience it offers. This feedback represents a shift in perceptions about Hyundai Motor and EVs in general.
The IONIQ 5 N has been lauded for its effective combination of everyday usability and racetrack prowess. Test drivers have particularly appreciated its motorsport-inspired features, which incorporate elements of combustion engine sound and driver engagement into the EV experience. The opportunity for more international media to test the car at the Korea International Circuit in Young-am is a testament to its growing appeal.
The IONIQ 5 N is Hyundai N brand's inaugural high-performance EV, built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electrified-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and enhanced with N’s motorsport-tested technologies. This model embodies N performance through three main concepts: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. It heralds a new generation of EVs that focus on driver enjoyment, leveraging advanced technology to boost track performance.
The car features innovative technologies such as the N Pedal software, which enhances handling and throttle response, and the N Drifting Optimizer, which supports drift angles with real-time control. The Torque Kick Drifting function and the N Torque Distribution system further refine its performance, alongside the electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) for improved cornering. The IONIQ 5 N also comes equipped with 21-inch forged aluminum wheels, additional wheel sensors, and upgraded suspension dampers, ensuring both dynamic performance and a comfortable ride.
