Hyundai Makes History with First 222 Ioniq 6 Delivery in the US!
In March, Hyundai Motor America experienced a significant surge in sales with a total of 75,404 vehicles sold, indicating a 27% increase from the previous year. This achievement marks the fifth consecutive month of breaking monthly sales records and the most successful March ever recorded by the company in the US.
During the first few months of 2022, Hyundai sold 184,449 units, an increase of 16% from the same period in the previous year. The month of March also saw the release of the new Hyundai Ioniq 6 with 222 units sold, in addition to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 2,114 units sold. However, the sales volume for Ioniq 5 decreased by 22% compared to the previous year.
Up until now in the current year, the sales of Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the US have reached 5,736 units, which is a decrease of 8% compared to the previous year. Although there were 222 Hyundai Ioniq 6 sold, the overall volume of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has decreased year-over-year to just under 6,000 units.
It is possible that the sales of Hyundai's electric vehicles are declining due to two reasons. Firstly, the removal of the $7,500 federal tax credit for imported battery electric vehicles under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA). Secondly, there may be limitations in the availability of these vehicles.
