Celebrating the Winner: BMW iX Awarded 2022 Wards 10 Best Interiors and UX

BMW unveiled the world's first all-electric BMW iX model in the beginning of 2022, with a look and feel that had never been seen in any of the other BMW models. The interior of the car was kept simple and modern, with a very minimal number of buttons and switches. Instead, the space was filled by the BMW Curved Display, made up of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display, all within a single glass surface that was angled towards the driver.

The iDrive, run by Operating System 8, was designed in a way that made it easy for the driver and passengers to use the car's advanced infotainment, navigation, and driver assistance systems. The result was a cabin that was free of clutter, and the frameless design of the BMW Curved Display gave a feeling of airiness.

The iX is a luxury vehicle that features sophisticated technology, a stunning aesthetic, and premium materials. The interior design is remarkable, with a plethora of colors, surfaces, and materials combined with expert craftsmanship. The seat controls, iDrive rotary control, and audio system volume control can be made of glass, while wood is used sparingly and Gold Bronze trim is used to embellish the dashboard and door panels. Despite the focus on technology, the use of colors and materials creates a tranquil atmosphere of relaxation and comfort.

To make the BMW iX stand out in digitalization and modern interior design, the company has made sure to prioritize sustainability and eco-friendly practices. The carpets, floormats, and headliner are crafted out of Econyl, which is recycled from fishing nets and other plastic waste. Instead of using harsh chemicals for leather seating, the process is done through olive leaf extract. Customers can also opt for cloth seats that use natural wool fibers and the fabric's backside consists of 85 percent recycled material.
