BRAND NEW Polestar 2: All You Need To Know About This Upgraded Beauty!
For the 2024 model year, Polestar has given its 2023 Polestar 2 EV a makeover, along with a few other updates. The electric sedan now has an extended range of up to 300 miles on a single charge and more powerful motors. It also comes in a rear-wheel drive model, and wireless phone charging and driver awareness features are now standard.
The most noticeable alteration to the Polestar 2 is the "SmartZone" grille, which is similar to the one found on the latest Polestar 3 SUV. The grille is fitted with a camera, midrange radar, accelerometers, ultrasonic sensors and heating wires to prevent ice from forming in cold climates — something a Swedish car company should be more than familiar with.
The Polestar 2 has had its range extended to an EPA estimated maximum of 300 miles on the single-motor RWD model, which is an improvement on the 270-mile range of the FWD version which came out in the US last year. This has been made possible by the larger 82kWh battery pack, which is able to charge at a faster 205kW rate compared to the 155kW rate on the FWD version. Additionally, the RWD model is more powerful, thanks to a permanent magnet motor that can produce 299 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque, compared to the FWD's 231 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, the RWD model is faster, taking only 5.9 seconds to go from zero to 60mph, which is much quicker than the 7.0 seconds of the FWD version.
The latest battery of the RWD Polestar 2 is more eco-friendly, with cell chemistry improvements cutting down the carbon emission per car from seven tons to 5.9. The all-wheel drive versions of the Polestar 2 don't get the bigger battery but do feature a new drivetrain and improved efficiency, providing a total of 421hp and 546 lb-ft of torque.
The AWD Polestar 2 can be updated with a Performance Pack via an over-the-air software update, which increases its power output to 455 hp and enables it to go from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. If the Performance Pack is added when the vehicle is purchased, customers will also receive the Plus Pack, which includes amenities such as a heated steering wheel, gold seatbelts, and the 20-inch wheel design of the Polestar 3, at no extra cost. The addition of the Performance Pack reduces the zero to 60 mph time from 4.5 to 4.2 seconds.
It is a fact that several of the advancements seen in the 2024 Polestar 2, including its modified front design and the built-in Smart Eye driver awareness technology (standard feature), come from the Polestar 3. However, the Polestar 2 will not be receiving the lidar from the 3 (we asked). On the other hand, the Polestar 2 now comes with the Pilot pack which includes features such as cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera (usually priced at $3400) with the dual-motor model in North America.
The upcoming Polestar 2 has some features from the Polestar 3, including a modified front design and the inclusion of Smart Eye technology. The North American version will have the Pilot package as standard, which includes features like cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera.
Polestar is one of the more remarkable electric car makers in the market, rapidly growing in popularity. It's taking a few strategies from Tesla's playbook, like manufacturing its cars in China and expanding to the US by mid-2024.
The 2024 Polestar 2 is on the market to be ordered now, with delivery beginning "later this year." Some buyers may be suitable for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
